How old is the never ending story
Shortly after, he "borrows" the book and begins to read it in the school attic where he is drawn into the mythical land of Fantasia, which desperately needs a hero to save it from destruction.
A boy who needs a friend finds a world that needs a hero in a land beyond imagination! Adventure Drama Family Fantasy. Did you know Edit. Trivia Noah Hathaway was hurt twice during the making of the movie. While learning to ride a horse, his horse threw him off, then stepped on him.
While shooting the drowning sequence in the "swamp of sadness," his leg got caught on the elevator and he was pulled under water. He was unconscious by the time he was brought to the surface. Goofs When Atreyu is in the Swamps of Sadness with his horse, the horse sinks because it gives into the sadness, but Atreyu doesn't sink, even though he is crying and sad that his friend has died. His eventual near-sinking at the end of the scene, which never occurred in the book, is due to the plot changes that were made for the movie.
Quotes Rock Biter : They look like big, good, strong hands, don't they? Connections Edited into Everything Wrong with User reviews Review. Top review. This is something special. A stunning and unique movie with this fantastic feeling and the feeling of being something "out-of-this-world".
The finest fantasy movie of all time. A timeless and nostalgic classic. Another major strength is the wonderful soundtrack, work of Giorgio Moroder and Klaus Doldinger, with that genial synthpop orientation. It's so 80's and I very much welcome that. The songs are all beautiful.
It's impressing how she sings so well. The movie is thrilling, very involving, exciting, great fun, contains lots of adventure, danger, strong suspense, darkness, drama, strong emotions, fantastic and strange creatures, interesting and well developed characters and a great cast.
There are strange and fantastic creatures such as the Racing Snail, the creepy Gmork, Morla the ancient one, the friendly Rockbiter a gentle giant , the Sleepy Bat and Falkor the luckdragon. I like Falkor very much: he's so big, so cool, so fluffy, so cute and so friendly. He also has a great sense of humor and his dog-like appearance makes him irresistible.
Other interesting characters are the somewhat rude Nighthob, Teeny Weeny, the hilariously typically grumpy old man Mr. Realizing that the story will repeat itself forever without his intervention, Bastian names the Empress 'Moon Child', and appears with her in Fantastica, where he restores its existence through his own imagination. For each wish, Bastian loses a memory of his life as a human, and some of his ability to leave Fantastica.
Unaware of this at first, Bastian goes through Fantastica, having adventures and telling stories, while losing his memories. In spite of the warnings of Atreyu and Bastian's other friends, Bastian uses AURYN to create monsters and dangers for himself to conquer, which causes some negative side effects for the rest of Fantastica. After encountering the wicked sorceress Xayide , with the mysterious absence of the Childlike Empress, Bastian decides to take over Fantastica for himself, but is stopped by Atreyu, whom Bastian grievously wounds in battle.
Ultimately, a repentant Bastian is reduced to two memories: those of his mother and father, and of his own name. After more adventures, Bastian must give up the memory of his parents to discover that his strongest wish is to be capable of love and give love to others namely his own father.
After much searching, and on the verge of losing his final memory, Bastian is unable to find the Water of Life with which to leave Fantastica with his memories. Here, he is found by Atreyu.
Only after Atreyu gives Bastian's name and promises to complete all the stories for him does the Water of Life allow Bastian to return to the human world, along with some of the mystical waters. Ende was definitely not on board with the busty, laser-shooting Sphinx statues that Atreyu encounters in the film.
When asked about working with such a young cast in an interview with SciFiNow , special effects director Brian Johnson said "Barret Oliver Bastian was an absolute gem" and Tami Stronach the Childlike Empress "was fine Noah Hathaway Atreyu was a bit of a pain in the arse, frankly.
It was very difficult for Wolfgang to get anything out of him. Barret Oliver delivered all the time, he was just brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
There are two sides to every story, of course. And Noah Hathaway remembers things a bit differently. In a interview with The News Tribune , the actor—who is now 47 years old—says that Petersen, whose English was limited, was a perfectionist who sometimes required up to 40 takes before he was satisfied with a single scene. There's a reason why the Swamp of Sadness scene took so long to shoot. The short version? Adult Written by iiFreyja1 August 26, Good movie It's a decent movie, very old but still a good watch if your kids aren't sheltered.
There are breasts on the sphinx but that shouldn't bother anybody because a it's historically realistic regarding the Greeks and b breasts are not always meant to be sexualized. In this case, they are not sexualized at all. It is your own belief on what breasts are that make you think the scene is sexual in nature.
There is a lot of hidden symbolism in this movie, such as when Atreyu is going to walk through the gates, the eyes of the sphinx opened very quickly for the Knight who had all talk and no confidence in himself. Whereas the eyes opened slowly for Atreyu, indicating his doubt was creeping in rather than having a true self-doubt from the start.
Messages like this are spread across the entire movie, and it's enjoyable once you catch them. Positive role models. Had useful details 2. Scary Story This film was much more dark in theme and atmosphere than expected. Had useful details 1. Read my mind 1. Adult Written by Ginger-Snaps May 29, Fun and Imaginative Family Film My son loves this movie and has watched it without any issues since he was about 5. His cousin is more fearful and was frightened by the scenes with the wolf and she is 7 so I think it really depends on the child and their level of comfort and fear, you will know your child.
I love that this film encourages the world of imagination and the importance of finding your own path and following your dreams, even if others think you are different for doing so. It's a great lesson for kids. I do want to say that I am shocked by the reviews that mention the breasts on the sphinx. These are not sexual. They are statues. Does this mean the same people would not take their child to a museum, or to a European country the streets of Florence are filled with naked statues , or a European beach for that matter where many women opt to sunbathe topless.
I promise that walking around the Louvre will not expose your child to inappropriate sexiness! Helped me decide. Parent Written by Matadors25 June 1, Not my Cup of Tea I watched this when I was younger and now that I have kids I had forgotten the Sphinx at the gates show their breasts. Parent Written by gruntso November 13, Not what I remembered - keep looking for something else to watch.
First of all, let me start by saying that as kid I loved this movie. In watching this movie with my kids , I was able to see it for what it is. The acting is terrible, the effects just don't hold up to what the kids are used to, and the story isn't good enough to overcome the acting and effects.
My 12yr old was able to pick apart the story for example: if the horse is sad and drowning, then why isn't the boy drowning, as he was sad at the loss of his horse? I think I would suggest you keep looking. Adult Written by grayhammy August 20, Scarier than the U certificate suggests It's scarier than the U certificate suggests.
